Introducing Mark Phillips- District 44

ARCN Interview with Potential Candidate Mark Phillips

Mark Phillips

The Arkansas Conservative News Network is the process of conducting interviews with candidates for office and potential candidates. Our first interview is with Mark Phillips, a potential candidate for the Arkansas House of Representatives in District 44. District 44 covers Jacksonville, AR and surrounding counties. ARCN uses the word “potential” when a candidate has to collect signatures pursuant to state law. If one is not running as a Republican or Democrat, they are required by law to gather at least 10,000 valid signatures. In Mr. Phillips case, he will run on the Constitution Party ticket if he is able to gather the required signatures. If you would like to assist Mark in gathering signatures, you can download a printable form here. You can read more about Mark’s bio here. ARCN Chief Editor Caleb Kinley conducted the interview with Mr. Phillips. Please note: ARCN will also be seeking interviews with Senator Blanche Lincoln, Congressman John Boozman (Republican nominee for Senate), Trevor Drown (Independent candidate for Senate), Tim Griffin (Republican nominee for US Congress-District 2), Joyce Elliot (Democrat nominee for US Congress- District 2), Beth Anne Rankin (Republican nominee for US Congress-District 4), Congressman Mike Ross (Incumbent Democrat -District 4), and more.

Question 1:
What has your potential opponent Mark Perry done that you feel the need to unseat him in November?
Phillips: “Nothing much. His record in the last legislative session speaks for itself. I think he sat and listened a lot which is good, but I haven’t seen any real substantial changes in this district under his watch.”

Question 2:
If elected, would you vote to raise the taxes of your constituents?
Phillips: “I will not vote to raise any tax on my constituents. They are sorely taxed enough already. In fact, I’ll work towards eliminating as many taxes as I possibly can.”

Question 3:
What will be your primary goal is you are elected?
Phillips: “For District 44, my primary goal is to help attract new businesses to find a home here. It is imperative that we put our people to work who haven’t worked in awhile. As far as Arkansas as a whole goes, I want to see the same. I want to attract big name manufacturers like Alabama did with Mercedes-Benz and Mississippi did with Nissan. We have just as much to offer if not more.”

Question 4:
Are you a 9-11 truther?
Phillips: “No I am not. I have watched the specials on the History Channel regarding what caused the twin towers to fall. I’ve listened to both sides and came to the conclusion that the penetration of the aircraft in the towers, and the immense heat generated by thousands of pounds of jet fuel, weakened the support beams causing the upper floors to come crashing down on the weakened floor, and by shear weight alone. I believe that is what caused the structures to come completely down.”

Question 5:
Are you a ‘birther?”, meaning, do you believe that President Obama was born outside of America and is not a natural born citizen which would make him ineligible to be president.
Phillips: “Yes I am. Too much evidence has surfaced to lead me to this. Mr. Obama has several law firms hired to suppress his background for the public eye. Barry Sorrento (Obama) did come to the U.S. on a J.W. Fulbright Scholarship. This is only given out to foreign students. His birth certificate was posted on the internet. A sharp eyed person noticed that it couldn’t have been an original. The borders of the certificate were laser printed. I seriously doubt if laser printers were available in 1961 when he was born. And, a Hawaii Senior election clerk insists’ that Obama was not born in Hawaii and calls it an office secret. He had access to every thing imaginable and emphatically claims Obama was simply not born there and there is no record to prove otherwise. Plus, there is evidence the current social security number Obama is using belongs to someone who is deceased and has been for years. Finally, the SSN issued is for someone born in Connecticut. Something very strange is going on that Obama feels the need to protect by spending millions of dollars.

Question 6:
Do you believe the Holocaust occurred?
Phillips: “Yes I do. There is too much documentation and eyewitness testimony to verify that it did happen. Even Germans (including German soldiers) who were appalled by the massive slaughtering of Jews joined together in an attempt to stop Hitler. Hitler’s SS were killing upwards to 16,000 innocent Jews each day, including women and children. This is highly documented. Not to mention all the video footage and photographs widely available.”

Question 7:
What would be the first piece of legislation you would introduce if elected?
Phillips: “My first piece of legislation would be to enact a joint venture between the State of Arkansas and private industry, to establish regional Work/Training Centers around the state. In Jacksonville there is a Work Training Center, but I want to take it further. If we can get a federal grant and then encourage different private industry entrepreneurs to donate equipment for training, we can develop skilled workers ready for hire to augment their workforce. By equipment I’m talking about heavy construction equipment, tractor/trailers, welding equipment, electrical supplies to train electricians and plumbing supplies to train plumbers. Contributing businesses will have first pick of the graduates in their particular trade craft. The quality of that workforce goes up and the unemployment rolls drop.”

Question 8:
What do you want to do for the people of your district?
Phillips: “I want to give to District 44 their own unique identity. In District 44, Jacksonville is clamoring for their own school district. That is a good start. But Little Rock draws a lot of the workforce from District 44. I would like something that rings out the uniqueness that separates us from the Greater Little Rock Area. I want as much information input from the citizens. If elected, I will hold town hall meetings to get their ideas and develop a plan of action I can take to the House floor for consideration.”

Q 9: Are you pro-life?
Phillips: “I have been all my life. Neita and I were unable to have children. She was pregnant once, but miscarried. Shortly, after that, she had to have a hysterectomy. This was a setback for us but, we also realized that it was God’s will. You don’t have to be a parent to realize that the destruction of a fetus by man is murder. God gives life and only God can take a life.”

Q 10: What do you think our state government needs to do to protect Arkansas and Arkansans economic sustainability?
Phillips: “Many years ago, it was determined by scientists, that if you built a wall all the way around Arkansas and kept out all commerce, Arkansas would be the only state in the union to be able to survive on its own natural resources. As idyllic as this may sound, we can’t be an isolationist state. We need to maintain our agriculture lead globally with crops like rice, strawberries, and watermelons just to name a few. We need to attract global industry to bring their operations here. We need to seek out those American companies who went to Mexico and China and entice them to bring their operations back to America and settling in Arkansas.”

Q 11: What do you think the federal government should do to improve our economy so that jobs are returned to the private sector?
Phillips: “First of all, I think the federal government needs to get a lot smaller. The jobs that would be lost, could be absorbed at a reasonable pace, within the private sector. For instance, should a Veterans Hospital be closed, the private sector has a great talent pool to work with. Most federal employees have marketable skills that the private sector can use. The few that don’t could learn new skills in a Work/Training Center is discussed on in question #7.”

Q 12: Would you sponsor or cosponsor legislation to have full transparency in the spending of tax dollars by our state government?
Phillips: “Absolutely! One thing I won’t stand for is a “miscellaneous” column. What is miscellaneous? I don’t care if it is a box of Kleenex. I want it spelled out, how much was bought and for how much money, and who (Department) it was bought for. Then I want all of this information posted on the Arkansas Government website and updated quarterly. The citizens have a right and a need to know how their money is being spent.”

Q 13: Why are you running on the Constitution Party ticket?
Phillips: “The ideals of the Constitution Party speak to my values. Go to the Arkansas Constitution Party and click on the national party website and then read the platform. You know where I stand on life. The Constitution Party puts it into writing in their platform. The Republicans and Democrats don’t. In our preamble, God is given praise and acknowledgment in the development of our nation. It is unfortunate that our major parties in the United States, shirk away from acknowledging God as it is not “politically correct” these days.”

Q 14: In 50 words or less, please list two or three problems you see in state government and what you would do to remedy the problems.
Phillips: “Jobs. Train a skilled workforce and attract industrial businesses. See Michigan. Education. Our students need more science and math to compete globally. Transparency in government. See #12.”
