“The government’s increased intervention in the economy, including high taxes, price controls, and inflation, which were a direct result of the populace’s demand for wealth redistribution and a central government to administer it, were the main causes of Rome’s decline and ultimate destruction.” Michael E. Newtown, The Path to Tyranny; ch. 3, page 96.

Being an avid reader of history and ancient cultures, I could certainly understand why our founding fathers would want to ensure that the government they created would be held accountable to we the people. Without such accountability, the new country they created and passed on to us for our posterity and prosperity, would suffer the same fate as the ancient kingdoms of Greece, Rome, and Israel. It is worth noting that over the last 100 years (at least), the government our founders created has blatantly ignored history and in doing so, have placed our beloved nation directly on the path to tyranny. A close examination of the history of Communist Russia, Fascist Italy, and Nazi Germany, should expose the short memories and transgression’s of our own government and many of those who have served our government for their own self interest at the expense of we the people.

In Michael E. Newton’s book, “The Path to Tyranny, A History of Free Society’s Descent Into Tyranny,” Newton clearly lays out the depressing facts of America’s incremental slide into tyranny for all to see. After personally reading Newton’s book, there is no denying that America is currently on the same rancid path of history as Stalin’s Communist Russia and Hitler’s Nazi Germany. The tyrannical laws of injustice are already in place to give our corrupt government control over we the people through laws that control or implement; prices, food products, water resources, electricity, medical services (health care), medicine, forced labor brigades (conscription equals slavery), citizen internment camps, fiat monetary system that rewards the ruling class and destroys the middle class, enforcement through military and mercenaries, 24/7 surveillance, one million pages of laws, and more. Caligula, Nero, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao, each who are talked about in Newton’s book, could only dream of having such power and tools in place to control the dissenters and those who believed in private property, freedom, liberty, sound money, while opposing wealth redistribution, corruption, government growth, and extreme taxation.

If our nation continues on this corrupt path and continues to ignore history, the America we love and hold so dear will be consumed by the ruling class and by default, tyranny will reign in America. It is most unfortunate that the older our nation becomes, the further away from our founders vision, knowledge, and principles, our leaders seem to stray. This is a natural occurrence among the would be tyrants and by those who just don’t give a damn about our beloved country. Power is their aphrodisiac and corruption is the venue tyrants use to achieve their lust for power.

As pointed out by Newton, many ancient cultures that started out free, then slid into skid row and tyranny over a period of time. How did this draconian injustice occur? Obviously, this tyrannical shift did not occur overnight. Instead, and as Newton accurately details, the tyrannical path was in some cases, overtly installed in small increments. Once it had taken root, it was common for a nation to have several tyrannical kings one after another. The similarities between Ancient Rome and current America, are eerily similar and are likely to make your skin crawl. Newton openly discusses how the fall of Rome came about and concludes that Rome’s failure was due to “increased intervention in the economy, including high taxes, price controls, and inflation, which were a direct result of the populace’s demand for wealth redistribution and a central government to administer it.” Sound familiar? If it doesn’t, then you’re not paying attention to what’s happening in both houses of congress. It is apparent then, that unless America quickly changes the current course of self destruction, America too will soon fall in to complete tyranny.

The Path to Tyranny is a must read book. If you read no other book this year, The Path to Tyranny is the one that you need to read. It starts out with Ancient Greece and ends with the United States of America. It would also make great curriculum for all students, including home schoolers. The only way to defeat tyranny is to recognize it, expose it, and educate others. The Path to Tyranny is an excellent place to start.

Amazon Reviews

1. Michael Newton is a new, young and talented author who has brought to us a book that should be part of every history curriculum here in the U.S. Unlike the ‘edited’ version of history we’re taught in schools, Michael gets to the real meat of the problem – government that takes too much control and the ultimate descent into abuse. If we can only learn from history to help to avoid repeating the errors of the past! ‘The Path To Tyranny’ can very well be our guide.

2. Michael Newton’s Path to Tyranny offers a well-researched contemporary examination of the tension between the political goals liberty and equality – both seemingly desirable. Yet Newton offers numerous examples showing how a preoccupation with achieving economic equality can lead to an overly-dependent citizenry more than willing to follow leaders who promise egalitarian utopia, but who ultimately deliver tyranny. This book helps answer the question of why rational, decent – and often free – people have sometimes chosen the most despicable leaders. A timely warning to “be careful what you wish for.”

3. The Author takes the reader on a disturbing journey, commencing with Ancient Greece,Ancient Rome, then Ancient Israel, Communist Russia,Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, and finally The United State of America. The Author recognized that all the History was available for us and the desperate need was for it to be organized. The Western Civilization is at risk, experiencing unprecedented events, and in order for the reader to understand,he must be reminded that “a golden age of wealth and freedom has caused mankind to forget the lessons of history”. Freedom in all its glory can end in Tyranny. This Book should be required reading in our Educational System. It speaks out in a manner that warns and guides at the same time. Eleftheria i thanatos! EXCELLENT READ! A MUST READ!
