“Any loss is a upset.  We had a chance at the end to win.  We didn’t execute like we should have.  It was just a tough loss.  We are going to bounce back and keep going.”

Panthers Lose to Falcons by Tight Margin

Panthers / Falcons Game Action

HOT SPRINGS, AR - The Hot Springs Christian School Panthers, now 0-5 at game end, lost by a tight margin of 13 points in a final score of 63-50.  The match-up between the Panthers and the Faulkner County Falcons was played on December 15, 2011.

The Panthers are well acquainted with the high intensity court dominance of the Falcons, losing a second time in season play.  On November 15th, the Panthers played the Falcons in Conway, AR for a final score of 65-44.

As if anticipating the brutality of Falcons #35 Carter Mayo and #22 Trent Wolf, the Panther boys held their opponents to a new set of standards.  Mayo was observed wrecking shop on November 15th, filling up the scoreboard with 21 of the Falcons’ 65 winning points. With that in mind, the Panthers kept their opponents in a tit-for-tat run:  middle of the first quarter:  7-9;  start of the second 9-9.

At halftime, the Falcons had emerged to take a 4 point lead; 25-21.  #35 Mayo with 12 points, followed by #22 Wolf for 8, in the first half were slowly shutting down the Panthers; But not without  Panthers screams.  Panther #21 Luke Lusher nailed 15 of the Panthers’ 21 points at halftime.

By the end of  the third quarter, the Falcons were up by as few as 6 points; 40-34.  Panther #1 Ryan Purdue nailed 7 points in the third quarter.

The Falcons broke the Panthers hold during the final quarter, advancing to 44-34 by the middle of the fourth.  The entire team put the hurt on the Panthers, scoring an additional 20 points for a final score of 63-50.

Anita Kinley spoke with Falcons’ Coach Joey Mayo (front row far right) concerning the game and their win over the Panthers:

“It was little rough, a bit more rough than what we are used to playing, but the guys game through.  They stepped up at some point and finally decided that they wanted to play.  We began to move the ball on offense …. began to play a little bit better defense …. got some rebounds ….blocked out some guys.  This made it easier for us not to let them (Panthers) get two or three chances at the basket.

The Panthers played much better.  I don’t know if it’s the same team.  They gave us a great game tonight.  The coach seems to be doing a great job with the guys.  They played great, hard defense.  They can penetrate and shoot.  #5 on their team is obviously one of their better first players;  When he got the ball, we were afraid.”

Panther #5 Shaun Hampton was a high scorer during the game, with 16 overall points.
